Oozing like honey.
That’s the best way to describe the severity of my eczema condition. With eczema, there’s a variety of different symptoms. Although none of them are “good”, one of the worst symptoms to experience and have is weeping, and unfortunately that was the symptom I was experiencing the most.
Weeping eczema is the process of fluid – filled eczema blisters oozing or popping, causing the skin to feel wet or even sticky ; hence, “Oozing like honey”. When the fluid dries, it creates a crust around the sore, blister, or patch wherever it oozes. The fluid is clear and will turn a yellowish color when the crust layer forms. Typically when weeping occurs, it is a sign that the eczema area has become infected.
When I started oozing, I first hadn’t thought much about it, thinking that it was just another open sore that would close up soon enough. However, like honey is, the fluid that would ooze out of my sore would become almost sticky sap that would crust over. It didn’t take too long until I was weeping all over the back of my legs. When I sat down on my chair, it was so uncomfortable to have the raw, sticky fluid rub against the chair. When I went out in public, I would wear jeans to cover the raw, sickly looking patches. My jeans would stick to me, but it was much better than having a staring pair of eyes look at my inflamed legs.
It didn’t take long for me to realize this wasn’t like any other sore or symptom I had ever experienced before, and soon enough I found myself being scheduled as soon as possible for an appointment with my doctor.
“We need to get this swabbed and tested” – was the first thing my doctor said when she took a look at my legs.
A week later the results were in and I had a staph infection. I was immediately put on a variety of medications and antibiotics to combat the infection.
If you’ve read each post this far, that means you’re caught up on everything from the very first post I made when my dermatologist recommended Dupixent to backtracking to the events prior to going to my pediatrician! If you have any thoughts or comments, please feel free to let me know!
Here’s a picture of what my legs looked like prior to going to the Doctor.
