Something New?

Today, I want to share with you guys my recent experience at the dermatologist. Many of you readers may not know this, but I was diagnosed with a severe case of eczema at three years-old. When diagnosed with this pesky skin condition, the doctors had told my parents that I would probably outgrow this condition by age 10. Then it became age 12. Then, today, I was told that it probably wouldn’t go away and I should just hope that the severity of my case would decline over the years. When my dermatologist told me that, I knew I should’ve felt some sort of sadness knowing that I will probably have to live with this condition for the rest of my life, but what my doctor told me next gave me hope.

Dupixent.

I had heard of this new medication before, but it had never occurred to me that I would ever be taking this medication. My doctor quickly explained that Dupixent is a shot that is known for its effectiveness in treating severe cases of eczema, but it did come with its fair share of side effects : itchy eyes, swelling, redness, joint & muscle pain, and blurred vision were just some of the common ones. Quite the list, right? Nevertheless, walking out of the doctor’s office, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of nervousness and excitement. Right now, the prospect of finding a solution after my years of horrible eczema flare ups was all that was going through my mind.

Now comes the big question : should I take the shot? Now I’m not one to just dive in without ever doing my homework, but the way my doctor described the miracles of dupixent was already sounding like a pretty good trade off to me. In exchange for a shot, I could finally be relieved from raw and inflamed patches of skin that had become my constant companions over the years.
